Can I do this?

I had a pretty dirty rug that I wanted to clean. Normally I just do the crappy topical steam clean in the customers home. Today I set the rug out on my freshly cleaned driveway and here is what I did. Please tell me if this would work on all rugs and be a "rug was pit"
☆flipped rug upside down and vacuumed...then vacuumed other side
☆I soaked the rug with water from garden hose
☆ pre sprayed with flex (obviously I would use rug specific chemicals if I decide I want to clean this way)
☆...

Can I do this?
